Girls: McMath vs. Charles Best

Your intrepid reporter arrived late to this one (Car broke down? Dog ate my map?) but got the best of it (get it?). The #2 ranked AAA Wildcats went into the 4th quarter down 33-30. CBBD faced a dangerous Jessica Jones (finished with 12 pts.) who could, and did, attack the basket. A pair of threes later, the second by Abby Zawada (finished with 9 pts.) and McMath took the lead. With the rock steady play of Kendal Sands at point guard the Blue Devils kept in it, fuelled by a key 3 from Jaya Rampuri with 2:25 to give them a 42-38 lead. A steal by Jones for McMath didn’t produce any points and the game started to slip away for the Richmond girls. Then a second steal by the Blue Devils led to a Rampuri 3 to put them ahead 45-41. The foul parade didn’t do much for the Wildcats and Charles Best completed the upset 49-41. Rampuri was Player-of-the-Game scoring 14 points. An apparently startled Charles Best Coach Mike Hind quipped “I didn’t see this coming” but, when he regained his composure moments later, he insisted that their game strategy played out as he had expected.
