(BOYS) Dover Bay Bays in deep, keep close but fall to Kitsilano

Dover Bay’s Nathan Olson comes out firing by hitting consecutive threes to open the contest. Anoop Bassi hits a couple of inside shots to make the 10-0 run complete. Two free throws by Kitsilano’s Owen Krestow breaks the 12-0 run. Dover Bay continued to stretch the lead with balanced scoring.  After a hot start from behind the arc the Bays have cooled down while Kitsilano has heated up, hitting two threes to close the gap to 7 with 1:45 left in the first.  Dover Bay 21 – Kitsilano 13 after one.

The second quarter opened up like the first, with the teams switching roles. Kitsilano’s Alex Bobyn hit consecutive threes and Dylan Douget added a deuce to tie up the game at 21.  After Kits tied the game the Bays go on a 12-4 spurt to capture an eight point lead. Both squads showing balanced scoring in this contest. It was a game of runs in the first half. The latest is a 10-0 run by Kitsilano. A barrage of three’s by both teams in the last minute was highlighted by the Blue Demon’s Dylan Douget’s buzzer beater to give Kitsilano their first lead of the half and halftime score of 43-41.

The runs continued as Kits came out firing on all cylinders in the third stretching the lead to 10 with an 8-0 run. Eight straight points by Dover Bay’s Ozan Avar keeps the Bays close. Kresto hit a buzzer beater three to cap off a quarter that saw the Blue Demons take a five point lead after three, 63-58.

The fourth started off slower than the previous three quarters. Both teams a bit more tentative and having trouble scoring field goals but trading free throws back and fourth instead. The hoops started to fall midway through the quarter with Kits clinging to a seven point lead with 1:55 left. Dover’s Nathan Olson hit a big three with 46.4 seconds left, which gave the Bays a shot at the comeback. However Alex Bobyn coolly hit two free throws to make it seven.  A few seconds later Dover Bay’s Nathan Olson hit another three to make it four.  The Bays late game heroics came up shorts as Kitsilano held on to win 80-73.
