(BOYS) Collingwood Cavs come up short against DP Todd Trojans

Written by Jeff McCutcheon, Handsworth Grad ‘06

Day 3 of the No Regrets Tournament is here. This matchup puts the Collingwood Cavaliers vs DP Todd Trojans. Collingwood has travelled a short distance from the shadows of the local mountains while DP Todd has driven 8.5 hours, or walked for 6 days according to Google maps, to be here today.

The Trojans made it clear from the opening whistle that they did not make the journey for no reason. A very nice start to the game was highlighted by Trojans Holden Black picking up a very nice “and one” three point play. Thanks to a true team effort and beautiful passing they managed to increase their lead to 28-12 by the end of the first quarter.

On the Cavaliers side, senior point guard #4 Lochlan Collins has been the heart of this offence. His quick feet and nice dishes set up a number of great opportunities for the Cavs but unfortunately not many of them connected. As the second quarter continued to roll along Trojans Cameron Sale caught fire hitting a number of big shots for his team. These shots have managed to give his squad a 48-26 lead at the half.

Despite being down the Cavs bench never led up once with their “Defense” chants or encouragement to their players. Today though it didn’t look like it was going to be enough to get them back in this game. As time marched along the Trojans lead continued to grow and by the end of the third quarter they found themselves down 62-32.

This game would end 76-51 for The DP Todd Trojans. A huge shoutout to the Cavs for never giving up and playing hard until the bitter end. Thanks to both teams for making it to this years tournament and a big thanks to the Trojans for travelling so far. Safe travels going home and we wish both teams the best of luck with the rest of their seasons.
