Prince George Polars Get W Against Pitt Meadows Marauders

Pitt Meadows Marauders vs. Prince George Polars

December 10, 2022

Both teams are coming off wins from this morning as they set to play their final game in the 2022 ‘No Regrets’ Tournament. Prince George drove the 9-hour trip down on Thursday, but are missing three of their starters for the trip.

The Polars got off to an early start as they went up 10-2 to open the first quarter. Polars would go on another 19-8 run thanks to their aggressive, fast-paced offense. At the end of the first quarter, PGSS leads 29-10.

Q2:To open up the second quarter, Pitt’s #16, Gerrard Paul-Balogun, is fouled and heads to the line, going 1-for-2. Both teams are playing half-court man defense and swapping baskets so far this quarter. A nice take from Pitt’s #4, Daniel Kalinich, followed by another lay-in by their #10 Rodrigo Zorrilla Olias, Pitt down by 19 points. Pitt’s #4 Daniel Kalinich hits a nice three-pointer but with the Polars scoring on their possessions, Pitt is having a hard time crawling back from their deficit. Pitt’s Kalinich hits another long three, and it appears they are not going to give up this early in the game. Polar’s #13, Deakon Anderson, blocks a Marauders’ shot and is able to capitalize on their turnover at the other end.

This high-scoring battle ends with a halftime score of 47-30 for Prince George.

The Polars come out of halftime in a full-court press to try to slow Pitt Meadows’ Kalinich bringing the ball up the floor, but he’s able to bring it across half each possession unscathed. That is until, with 7 minutes left in the third quarter, Pitt gets charged with a backcourt violation, turning the ball over to the Polars who are able to score and increase their lead to 22 points.

A block from Polar’s #13 Deakon Anderson ends up in a breakaway for them on the offensive end, and a nice lay-in by #5 Chet Moore. Another long three from Pitt’s Kalinich is almost reciprocated by the Polars, but their #5, Chet Moore, who is hard-working on the boards, gets a feisty rebound for another offensive opportunity; the Polars can’t put one in though. The Polars continue to put back-court pressure on Pitt and the game remains in the Polar’s hands. This time, a pull-up three from Kalinich brings the game to within 17. At the end of the third quarter, Polars lead the Marauders 66-47.

Props to the score table students at Mulgrave this afternoon-two of them are running a three person job, and doing fantastic!

Q4: With 6 minutes to go in the game, Pitt has crawled back to make it a 9-point game, and all of a sudden this game is up for grabs! But Polars really want this one and aren’t going to let it go easily. A bank shot from Deakon Anderson for the Polars brings this game out of reach for Pitt, as Pitt is now quickly down 16 points with just over 2 minutes left in the game. Pitt didn’t give up, but Polars win this one 79-64. Thanks to both teams for coming to ‘No Regrets’ and battling hard.

Final score: Prince George Polars 79, Pitt Meadows Marauders 64
