Kalinich Leads Pitt Meadows to Win Over GW Graham

GW Graham Vs Pitt Meadows

December 10th 2022

Walking into Mulgrave Secondary School today while both teams were warming up, it looked like the fans were in for a true David v Goliath type of Game: GW Graham suiting up 18 players and Pitt Meadows with a mere 8. It was easy to assume that the Grizzlies would try and attempt to outsize and outrun the Marauders. However, early in the game, it was the Marauders pushing the pace with furious fast breaking and high volume shooting. Looking like Mike Dantoni’s “7-seconds or less” Phoenix Suns offence. It was clear this David and Goliath story was a misinterpretation as it was Pitt Meadows who jumped out to an early lead and seemed to control the game from the jump.

#4 Daniel Kalinich, in particular, was putting on a clinic. Controlling Pitt’s fast-paced offence, and shooting the lights out. He put up 14 points in the first quarter and single-handedly out-scored GW Graham on his own by the end of the first quarter.

The first half was all Pitt as #7 Jacob Ogmundson and #4 Kalinich led the way in scoring, and # 16 Gerrard Paul-Balogun controlled the boards and paint. The score at the half was 52-17

Don’t count out the Grizzlies just yet…. With a spark of energy from #8 Braeden Macdonald on the defensive end, and some timely shot making by #13 Keegan Dunn and #14 Yalin Yilmaz, the Grizzlies started the second half with a 17-0 run. It looked like the momentum had swung back in the direction of the Grizzlies as the Marauders fell flat to start the second half.

However, after a quick timeout, the Grizzlies opted for a hockey style line change and a fresh 5 came on. This was as close as Grizzlies would get as Kalinich and #13 Arian Jamshidi said “No” to this mini comeback and continued their strong play. The Marauders were able to keep GW Graham at a comfortable distance for the rest of the 3rd quarter.

Kalinich’s (who ended up as the player of the game) night was over after the end of the 3rd. He finished with 28pts in just 3 quarters. Pitt remained up 25+ points for the remainder of the 4th and the game ended with the final score being 89-59 for Pitt Meadows.
