Girls: Handsworth vs. Holy Cross

The 2015 "NO REGRETS" Basketball Tournament kicked off at Handsworth with a packed gym jacked up by the irresistible urgings of Crazy 'P'. The Handsworth Royals girls took on the Holy Cross Crusaders in an early season contest, the outcome of which neither Handsworth Coach Scott Palmer nor Holy Cross Coach Steve Beauchamp cared to predict. Four points separated the teams at the end of the first quarter which was trimmed to a Handsworth lead of 2 at the half. Holy cross was led by diminutive but lightning-fast play-making point guard Naomi Vinluan (love the shoes!). For its part, Handsworth was led by the hard-working and freshly minted captain Oana Lapuste. By the end of the third quarter the Crusaders had taken the lead 42-35 with Juliana Babic leading the way with 17 points and 11 rebounds. For The Crusaders #13 Maria Palmegiani was doing the heavy lifting in the middle. The lead could not be overcome by the pressing Royals and the game ended 56-50 in the Crusaders favour. Babic had 19 for Holy Cross and Lapuste had 14 for the Royals. Player of the game was #21 Juliana Babic.
