(BOYS) Brentwood College's pressure, team play too much for Salmon Arm Golds

Salmon Arm Golds vs Brentwood College

 Written by Connor Lewis

The 5:45 game feature two out-of-towners in Salmon Arm and Brentwood College.

The game began with both teams playing great team defence and forcing each team to settle for the outside shot in a fast-paced opening quarter.

When Salmon Arm did drive, they were met by the long arms of #15 Justin Watt, who did a great job staying straight up and blocking all shots near the rim. As Toronto Raptors Announcer Jack Armstrong would say “GET THAT GARBAGE OUTTA HERE”

Justin Watt was a stud for Brentwood College and was seemingly the only player able to penetrate The Golds defence. Brentwood led Salmon Arm 29-23 at half and never relinquished that lead.

Salmon Arm had trouble getting anything going in the first half. #10 Darian Sundby did his best to keep Salmon Arm in it with some great hustle points and rebounding. However, it was Brentwood’s team defence that held Salmon Arm to 6 points in the 3rd quarter and Brentwood was able to open up an 11-point lead.

Don’t count Salmon Arm out just yet! Head Coach Jeff Johnson’s energy on the sidelines was able to spark a surge of energy in his team. The 4th quarter was full of late game heroics as #13 Brad Martin was looking like the Gold’s “golden boy”, hitting 3 triples late in the game. His sharp shooting was able to bring Salmon Arm within striking distance. Martin’s shooting combined with their increased defensive pressure on Brentwood’s point guard #7, allowed Salmon Arm to claw within 4 points.

Unfortunately, it would not be enough as #7 Mattias Streblow and #14 Juan Navarro of Brentwood college handled the pressure like pro’s and were still able to make enough plays down the stretch to withstand Salmon Arm’s comeback.

Final Score 50-43 Brentwood College.

Key of the game: Team play. Both teams played with great team defence and a balanced offensive output. It was Brentwood supporting cast off the bench, that were able to make an impact on the floor by doing the little things and making plays. Congratulations to Brentwood on the Victory.
