(BOYS) Dover Bay Dolphins not enough to jump over DP Todd Trojans into second round of tourney

Boys Dover Bay vs DP Todd Trojans

The 3:30 game featured two teams travelling into town with Vancouver Island’s Dover Bay Dolphins facing the DP Todd Trojans from Prince George.

Despite the long trek from the ‘Great White North’ the Trojans came out with loads of energy in the first quarter and were spreading the ball extremely well. They were running a well-balanced unselfish offensive game that kept the ball moving until a lane opened up.

Neither of these teams possessed a great deal of size which resulted in a faster pace transitional game. Each possession it seemed was a different player taking their opportunity cutting to the bucket for short jumpers or contested layups.

Dover Bays power forward Brad Lansdell looked to be their most dangerous threat as he displayed early signs of athleticism, catching lobs and making some near highlight-reel plays.

They continually tried to attack with the length of Lansdell and the brotherly backcourt of the Seamans. They were showing signs of creativity and great handles however not all of this effort was being converted into points on the board.

At halftime the well-balanced Trojans led 36-19.

In the second half the Dolphins came out with a full-court press trying to slow down the Trojans however once the Trojans broke down the press it seemed there was always an open alley to the bucket. Point guard Cameron Sale was the one doing a great job and getting around this press and creating open space and opportunities for his teammates. Holden Black was one of these teammates taking full advantage of his chances cashing in on multiple 3rd quarter buckets. If Holden missed his chance in the paint you could count on him to pull down his own offensive board and go right back up with it. This earned him back-to-back trips to the charity stripe as Dover Bay kept committing soft fouls in the paint.

This narrative continued in the 4th as the Trojans athleticism was difficult to match on each end of the court. It certainly was not for a lack of effort on the Dolphin’s side as their work rate and efforts of keeping a high press was certainly commendable.

With this comfortable lead in the 4th the Trojan’s starters were able to get some well-deserved rest as they get set for their next test on Friday.

The final score line was 67-40 for the Trojans.

Congratulations to DP Todd Trojans Cameron Sale on winning the player of the game award.

A big thanks to each of these teams travelling into town for the big No Regrets tournament!
