West Vancouver Highlanders Tame Visiting OKM Huskies

Early Saturday morning at the beautiful Collingwood Campus sees West Vancouver Secondary travelling just up the road to face Okanagan Mission who has travelled all the way from Kelowna. It's a stormy day outside but inside both team’s offences seem to be operating nice and smoothly. Trading buckets back and forth it looks like Day 3 of the tournament might be leaving the boys legs a little tired on defence. Things settle down for the last couple minutes of the quarter however, and at the end Q 1 it's 22-18 for the Highlanders.

The second quarter starts with a pair of offensive blocking fouls on the visiting Huskies. Both fouls have come off screens that the referee doesn't seem to like. This will be something OKM needs to address as they can't afford to waste any possessions in a tight game like this. West Van is able to use this to their advantage going on a nice run and build a 32-20 lead midway through the frame. To end the half, Okanagan's #7 Davin Hamm hits a massive 3 point buzzer beater. We'll see if this is enough to wake up his team as they find themselves down 39-25 at the half.

Both of these teams are playing a much more mild, methodical defense compared to their opening games Friday night.

Definitely a change in game plans but also probably the result of playing their 4th game in 3 days: both teams rotate their benches to get everyone some time but it's more of the same and with 1 quarter left OKM is down 56-37.

Final quarter of the tournament left for both of these squads and West Vancouver’s #10 Luis Lara Alvarez opens it up with a nice dunk on the break. This game is getting out of reach for the visiting Huskies but it's nice to see both teams continue to play hard. Both teams are certainly inspired and motivated by their head coaches and for most of the 4th quarter everyone on the team gets time on the court which is good to see. Congratulations to West Van for winning this one 75-48 but a bigger shout out to OKM for making the trip down from Kelowna. We hope you make it home safely and thank you for taking part in this years "No Regrets" tourney.
