(BOYS) Raining Threes on a Clear Day as Brentwood Defeats STA
STA v. Brentwood
December 11, Round 3
On a rare clear sunny afternoon in North Vancouver, it was raining threes in Collingwood’s gym, as this battle featured two very evenly matched teams. STA vs Brentwood started off with a furious pace.
Brentwood's game plan was clear: Pressure the ball and neutralize the big man #15, Fitznar. This was successful at first, but STA started off hot from 3 with a couple big buckets by # 11, McLennan, and #13, Ng. STA jumped out to an early lead, but Brentwood’s #10, Gage, kept them close by showing off his slashing and mid-range game. Score at the end of the 1st was 29-27 for STA.
Second quarter was much of the same; ball pressure by Brentwood led to points off turnovers. STA big man #15, Cutler, came alive and was able to keep STA close. #6 from Brentwood, Pasquale, wanted in on the three point action. Brentwood's three specialists were able to find themselves open in the corners of STAs 3-2 zone. A high scoring back and forth affair saw Brentwood leading STA 57-52 at the half.
Brentwood coach must have had an Al Pacino type pump up speech at the half, because Brentwood came out with tons of energy and quickly expanded on their lead, going up 11. STA kept on fighting and number 14 was keeping them within striking distance with some great slicing drives and a couple big threes. STA was able to stay close into the fourth as the momentum of this game kept swinging back and forth. With the game at 89-83, a few costly turnovers by STA late and a couple clutch buckets by Brentwood's #11, Fritz, and #6, Pasquale, put the game out of reach.
A well fought match by both teams.
Final score: 100-89 for Brentwood.
