(BOYS) Salmon Arm's long ball comes up short against Dover Bay

SALMON ARM VS DOVER BAY

Written by Larry Donohoe

It’s Saturday morning and everyone’s favourite, the “egg mcmuffin” game featured two out-of-town teams in the Salmon Arm Golds and Dover Bay Bays. Despite the early start, the game started with great energy by both teams. Midway through the first quarter the game was locked at 10 a piece. Salmon Arm’s Brendan Mayes led the way early offensively for the Golds and Anoop Bassi for the Bays. Their great energy was followed up with great offensive output by both teams.  After one it was 19-18 Salmon Arm.

The offensive explosion continued into the second as both teams didn’t have much trouble scoring.  Both teams also had very balanced scoring.  Is it great offense or Saturday morning defense?  I think a bit of both as these two teams keep coming in waves at each other.   At the half it was Salmon Arm 42 – Dover Bay 37

The third quarter started like the second ended with both teams continuing their offensive prowess. Consecutive deep threes by Dover’s #13, Brad Lansdell put the Bays ahead with 4:35 left in the third. It’s impressive that you have two out of town teams obviously not sleeping in their own beds, playing with such energy and intensity.  Salmon Arm’s Jonah Rivette capped a 5-0 run for the Golds to retake the lead. The team traded baskets to wind down the third.  After 3 quarters it was quite appropriately Dover Bay 59 – Salmon Arm 59.

The fourth started off a bit tentatively as both teams missed shots on their first three possessions. The Bay’s Anoop Bassi broke the deadlock with a two for two performance from the line.  Dover Bay upped the lead to four with 5:50 left in the fourth. A great breakaway drive to the hoop by Steven Hardy gave the lead back to Salmon Arm, but the reign of three’s by Dover Bay quickly gave the Bays back a three point lead. This was a game of three’s as Dover Bay hit  a total of 14 (Landsell with 5 himself) and Salmon Arm had 9 themselves.  Great effort by both teams! Final Score Dover Bay 82 – Salmon Arm 74
