(BOYS) Mt. Boucherie find themselves travelling too early, drop close game to Churchill Bulldogs
Written by Jeff McCutcheon, Handsworth Grad ‘06
The last game for both of these squads has the Mount Boucherie Bears taking on the Churchill Bulldogs. The Bulldogs squeezed out a 59-54 win last game while the Bears dominated their opponents 88-23. Mt Boucherie seemed to be riding this high with a parade of high flying dunks during their warm ups. They’ll look to continue this into the game.
…And that is exactly what they did. Five minutes into the game and the Bears were up 10-2. Last night the Bulldogs were the ones who were up big early but they let their opponents claw their way back. Tonight they’ll have to do the same. After a quick few possessions they were right back in it. A big 3 pointer by A. Zhang capped off a nice run by Churchill and just like that they were up 16-15 after the first quarter.
It was clear the Bears have a very nicely rounded team built on hard work and ball movement. Their ability to find the open man was apparent during a beautiful sequence of passes which eventually resulted in an easy 3 pointer for Eren Korkmazel. Perhaps thinking about their trip back to Mount Boucherie a bit too early the bears have found themselves in serious travelling problems. During a span of 3 minutes they collected 4 travelling calls which has left their coach in dismay. The Dogs were unable to capitalize on these mistakes though and at halftime they were down 33-24.
Just like last night the Bulldogs continue to roll with nearly full line changes every couple of minutes. These fresh legs are doing some damage early in the first half and 4 minutes in they are only down by 3. This run continued and by the of the third quarter they were up 43-41.
Last quarter of the tournament for both these teams and immediately it was clear they weren’t going to leave anything left in the tank. The most memorable possession of the game so far saw 4 offensive rebounds by hungry Bulldogs team then finished off by a silky three pointer by A. Shamms. This sent their bench into hysterics. At one point the Dogs had managed to build a 10 point lead with 6 minutes left in the game but with 2 minutes left this lead was down to 6. After a big 3 pointer by Skelton we had ourselves a very tight game. Unfortunately for them this wasn’t enough though as the Churchill Bulldogs managed to hang on to a 60-57 win.
Thanks to both teams for taking part in this years tournament! We wish you the best of luck with the rest of your seasons.
No Regrets!
