Girls: Walnut Grove vs. Bodwell

Written By Aleem Karmali and Noah Wolverton of Collingwood, Grade 11 and 12

The Walnut Grove Gators came ready to play for their first game in the 2017 ‘No Regrets’ tournament. Their ability to score from the inside and the outside was too much for the Bruins’ defence. Bodwell fought hard throughout the entirety of the game but the Gators’ tenacious defense was too much for them to handle.

From the opening tip it was clear that Walnut Grove was going to play hard. Their transition offense was stellar and got them an early lead. From that point they never looked back and their offense looked unstoppable. After the first quarter they led the Bruins 31-2. The Wisotzki sisters, Sophia and Jessica, led the scoring after the first quarter with 9 points and 8 points respectively. Bodwell kept fighting throughout the first half and never gave up. The Gators’ offence kept rolling and they continued to spread the points.

After the halftime break the Gators continued to roll but Bodwell were still fighting. The Gators ran their offensive sets and made their shots. Bodwell continued to take their looks but nothing was dropping for them on this day. The fourth quarter was much of the same as Walnut Grove proved why they are the #1 ranked team in the province. They won the game by a final score of 109-14. #11 Tavia Rowell won player-of-the-game and had an incredible 32 points including 4 three-pointers. Walnut Grove looks to keep up this level of play tomorrow and Bodwell looks to bounce back with a win.

No Regrets.
